On 3 November, Bernard and Liza crossed the finish line of the New York City Marathon. They ran not only for themselves, but for girls in rural India who deserve the same opportunities as anyone else. Liza, 19, and Bernard, 20, who also serves as a board member of Collective Minds Foundation, turned every kilometre of effort into something far greater than a personal achievement.
Their goal was clear from the outset: to raise at least 10,000 euros for a project that gives girls in the rural areas of Maharashtra, India, the chance to play sports, to train as sports coaches, and to develop essential life skills, English and IT skills along the way.
For these girls, opportunities of this kind are far from given. By turning their run into a fundraising effort, Liza and Bernard helped to open a door that, for many girls in the region, has remained closed for far too long.
At Collective Minds Foundation, we believe that talent is not determined by where a child is born. A girl growing up in a rural village in Maharashtra carries just as much potential as anyone else. What she often lacks is the opportunity and guidance to develop it.
This project addresses exactly that need. Through sport, girls build confidence, discipline and a sense of belonging. Through coaching education, they gain a skill and a meaningful role within their community. And through English and IT lessons, they gain access to a wider world of possibilities.
The dedication that Liza and Bernard showed, in their training, their fundraising and their belief in the cause, reflects exactly the kind of commitment that drives our mission forward. Their effort is a reminder that meaningful change often begins with individuals who are willing to go the extra mile.
To everyone who donated and offered their support, we extend our heartfelt thanks. Your generosity helps to give these girls a brighter future.
Collective Minds Foundation uses sport, education and life skills to guide children in vulnerable communities across Africa and Asia towards a stronger future. By strengthening their physical, mental and social development, we work towards equal opportunities, self-confidence, resilience and perspective.
