Hockey, connection and exchange

During the week, Collective Minds Foundation worked together with the women’s and men’s first teams of Hockeyclub Mol in a programme built around sport, education and exchange. Inspiring hockey matches, school visits and clinics created opportunities to share knowledge, build relationships and experience the power of sport in a local community setting.

More than just a series of activities, the project created real moments of connection between players, young people and local partners. Through hockey, participants were able to meet each other, learn from one another and experience how sport can open doors to understanding and mutual respect.

Community engagement and school visits

An important part of the project was the direct involvement with schools and local communities in Cape Town. Through school visits and sports clinics, the team connected with young people in an active and meaningful way. These moments created space not only for hockey, but also for encouragement, exchange and shared experiences.

The visit to a township added another important layer to the week. It connected sport with the wider social reality of the community and reinforced the importance of approaching every encounter with openness, respect and a willingness to learn.

Team-building and shared experiences

Alongside the activities on the field, the project also focused strongly on team-building. Throughout the week, players and participants shared experiences that strengthened collaboration, reflection and personal connection. These moments helped make the project not only impactful for the community, but also valuable for the teams themselves.

Cape Town Hockey Week showed that sport can do more than improve performance. It can also create trust, understanding and a sense of shared purpose between people from different backgrounds.

Sports equipment donations

To support the schools beyond the visit itself, sports equipment was donated during the project. This was an important part of the week, as it helped ensure that the impact of the project could continue after the group had left. By providing equipment, the schools were given the opportunity to keep playing hockey and continue building their own sports development. This made the project not only about one week of activity, but also about creating lasting opportunity through practical support.
